My favorite dance styles are hip hop and jazz funk. These styles truly reflect my personality. There is nothing like popping out on stage, nailing a move, and giving that confident smirk that tells the audience "I am that girl". These styles of dance allow me to command the room, while also allowing me to be girly, but yet FEIRCE and GRIMEY when needed.
Ciara is a huge inspiration to me. She empowers me to believe in my own potential. My mom is also one of my biggest role models. Ciara shows me that its possible to be a performer and still have a family of my own one day. Being a part of this music video would jumpstart my dreams. While this contest may feel out of reach, the process itself is helping me step out of my comfort zone and embrace the vulnerability that comes with pursuing my passion.
I would use the money to start a black owned competitive dance competition with minority judges. I currently compete in the competitive dance space where these dance events lack representation. I often found that my performances told unique stories and expressed artistic ideas that the judges were not able to fully relate to. Representation will create a more equitable opportunity for minority dancers to succeed in the competitive dance space, regardless of background and identity.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Entrepreneur of Impact, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
