Thank you for supporting me in this competition. Your donations and participation will benefit the Why Not You Foundation in their mission to fight poverty through education initiatives that empower youth to lead with a why not you attitude.
The vulnerability that I feel dancing as a plus size dancer in the industry is extremely excruciating. Watching dancer like Amari Monster and Amanda Lacount represent plus size women in dance shows me that I have the talent and passion to be the next one to empower bigger dancers. I’m here to make change not just dance.
Having an opportunity like this would change my life in so many ways, but I feel like the biggest chance would be how the industry views dancers who don’t look like the stereotypical dancer. With me in the video, it would show that all bodies can dance. Size, disability, chronic illness… none of that would matter. My life would change because the world would get to see that people like me are normal and can be extremely extraordinary.
With that much money, I would give back to the community that built me up: the plus-size community, the chronic illness community, and the Latino community. Now I get that there’s only so much money that can be spread around but the $20,000 can help out the high school dance program I came from. It can help fund chronic illness campaigns fighting for better health care for all. And it can help me create a platform where all people who are different feel they have a space to express them se
