Thank you for supporting me in this competition. Your donations and participation will benefit the Why Not You Foundation in their mission to fight poverty through education initiatives that empower youth to lead with a why not you attitude.
My dance style is diverse ranging from jazz and ballet to contemporary, with hip hop being my main style. At five, I was initially inspired by the Michael Jackson Dance Experience, and have since gained daily inspiration from dancers such as my teacher, Trisia LaShon Brown, my parents, Missy Elliott, the Les Twins, and Ciara. After my Grandparents passed away and my dad became paralyzed and had to recover, I became more connected with dancing, especially hip hop, as it became my outlet.
Being in Ciara’s music video would not only give me exposure to a higher level of dance and choreography, but it would also be a great learning experience; it would help me challenge myself and boost my confidence and self-esteem. After COVID-19, I became less social, more to myself, and not as willing to try new things. This opportunity would significantly impact all aspects of my life as it would continue to help me break out of my shell.
If I were to win this competition it would provide me with new opportunities learn, grow, and pursue my passion for dance. As for the $20,000 prize, I would use some of the prize money to fund my senior year trip to Japan with my Advanced Placement World History class. I would then use a portion to help pay for my last year of company dance fees for costumes, competitions, and performances. Lastly, the remaining money would go towards college funds as i pursue a degree in engineering.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Entrepreneur of Impact, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
