My dance journey began in highschool with Modern and Contemporary styles, competing at WGI in Ohio with my Colorguard team. I became my school’s dance instructor, teaching myself Hip-Hop through online resources. In college, I finally had the chance to take my first official formal dance classes, I joined nonprofits, and became a choreographer with mentorship. Being in Ciara’s video would inspire me to continue my dance journey and show my community that dreams are achievable with hard work. It would allow me to represent my culture and experiences while encouraging others to pursue their passions. I have the tendency to downplay certain things in my life but this opportunity would validate my efforts, help me grow as an artist, and remind me of my worth. I want to show others, especially my community, that if I can do it so can they!
With $20,000, I’d help my parents hire an attorney to complete their citizenship process. As 1st Gen. Mexican American daughter, I’m upset and affected by what ICE is doing to my community currentlywhere I live, tearing families apart. My parents work very hard in the fields (AG) to support my younger siblings and I. Losing them would mean they’d miss seeing me graduate in May, a moment they’ve worked hard for.
