I started dancing at 4, inspired by my siblings in the Philippines. Moving to the U.S., I learned choreography from music videos and embraced freestyle. Shy offstage, I gained confidence performing and began choreographing at 10. After joining a competition team in high school, I took a decade off before returning in 2021. A 2022 injury led me to adapt through seated freestyling, deepening my connection to dance as a form of healing and self-expression.
Being in Ciara’s music videos would open doors for me to grow while supporting my family and local dance communities. Her videos inspired me as a child, helping me embrace my femininity despite criticism for dancing too feminine or sensual. This opportunity would symbolize resilience, proving to myself that I can overcome challenges, especially after bouncing back from an injury, and show that dreams are achievable with determination and passion.
Winning $20,000 would help me give back to my family and local dance communities. I’ve dreamed of opening my own dance studio and buying a home for my family, who have sacrificed so much to support me. For the dance community, I want to give back because the studios and classes I’ve attended shaped me into the dancer I am today. This opportunity would allow me to express gratitude and invest in the growth of others.
