My inspiration for dance growing up was my older sister. My younger sister and I were drug to her dance group practices and we joined by association. Growing up in the 2000s, Ciara is probably my celebrity dance inspiration with the perfect mix of a feminine and masculine style - a style I still model my choreography after.
It would give me the confidence I need to pursue dance professionally. For the last two years I’ve been coaching a high school team, I had my own dance team in college and I’ve been teaching dance classes for youth aged 5-12 for the last 5years. Regardless of that, I haven’t had the push to pursue it outside of the communities I’ve built, and having this opportunity will give me that.
I would put it into a savings account to go towards opening my own Dance Studio in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. It’s a dream I’ve had since college, and I’ve been saving for it, but this $20,000 will put me in a space to begin looking for a space to hold my team in.
