As someone who was saved by dance, what I lack in fancy tricks I make up for in attention to musicality, vulnerability, and substance.
Thank you for supporting me in this competition. Your donations and participation will benefit the Why Not You Foundation in their mission to fight poverty through education initiatives that empower youth to lead with a why not you attitude.
I like to combine different styles that I am versed in when I move. I have never liked being put in a box so I do a contemporary, Latin footwork fusion style. My inspiration is my ethnic background, being that I come from a poor religious, Mexican household and my friends and family. It's hard to choose just one. A lot of who I am comes from how I grew up and who I aspire to be comes from my friends and family who I look up to and who support me.
It might give me an ego boost, but that is something I feel I need. I'm used to training under super toxic environments where teachers didn't think I stood a chance. I was outcast because I was extremely poor, training classically in ballet. Years of being put in the back and being overshadowed put a huge dent in my self-esteem, and therefore my self-worth. I came close to giving up on my dreams several times but never did. Being in Ciara's music video will hopefully change the way I see myself.
I would use a portion of it to help my mother, to pay off my student debt, and hopefully use the rest to travel and audition for other dance projects. I want to make something of myself to make my mom proud and show her that all the hardships we endured was worth it. Because of her selflessness she has given me her unconditional support. She has worked so hard to get me to where I am today and I am working so hard to give her the life she always deserved. I want to make my family proud.
