I was a shy and anxious kid growing up, but dance helped me become comfortable in my own skin, especially through hip-hop. I would watch artists like Ciara, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, and Usher, and dance crews like the ICONic Boyz and IAmMe. Every one of them performed with confidence and energy, and I wanted to be just like them. After years of looking up to them and practicing, I have grown more confident in myself on and off the dance floor, finding my own hip-hop style along the way.
It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to perform professionally. Ever since I was little, I would dance around pretending I was the star of a music video - and I still catch myself day dreaming about what it would be like. Being in Ciara’s music video would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, opening the door for my dance career and allowing me to learn how to bring choreography to life for a wider audience on a deeper level. I see this as a chance to keep growing and follow my dreams.
I would invest some into continuing to learn and audition, but I would donate the majority of the money to my hometown dance studio. In 2020, we started the “Kindness Matters” fund after losing one of our dance family members, raising money for students who may not be able to afford their classes, shoes, costumes and more. Dance has given me so many opportunities to express myself, and I would love to be able to give that opportunity to dancers who may not otherwise get the chance.
The search is on for eight dancers to be flown to a live judged event in Phoenix, AZ, showcasing their skills to Ciara and her choreographer, Jamaica Craft. One will be chosen to appear in her upcoming music video and win $20,000!
