I don’t perform for myself — I perform for my community. As I rise up, I bring my black brothers and sisters with me. #RepresentationMatters
Thank you for supporting me in this competition. Your donations and participation will benefit the Why Not You Foundation in their mission to fight poverty through education initiatives that empower youth to lead with a why not you attitude.
My inspiration comes from all over. I’ve never taken a formal dance class, but thanks to my wonderful family and friends I’ve been able to embrace a variety of cultural styles (Native American, Latin, African, Asian, Polynesian) as well as some jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. Learning to embrace many styles of dance has helped me learn to love many types of people — and for that I’m forever grateful!
Being in Ciara’s music video would not only impact my own life, but those around me as well. Personally, it would boost me up to another platform so that my message of love and equity may be spread throughout the world. But, my appearance in the music video and winning this competition would help show my students and those I’ve worked with in the past that ANYONE can make it if you put your mind to it. #RepresentationMatters
I would donate the majority of the 20k to a program called The Rhythm ‘N Soul Collective at Brigham Young University. I created this group as a student to ensure that black students at this PWI knew they had a space to cultivate and share black culture and creativity.
