I would describe my style as motivational movement. I am a jazz funk dancer on wheels. As a wheelchair user, I’ve found a style for myself that has zero limits. The possibilities of adaptations and movement on wheels are endless.
Being a part of this wouldn’t just change my life. It would change the game for my entire community. This would give the disabled community representation alongside a legend in a way never done before. This would mean my community is finally seen. This would mean that I am seen as an equal dancer to those in the room on their feet.
With $20,000, I would buy a real dance wheelchair for myself. The rest would go towards the organization I’m a part of called The Rollettes. We are a wheelchair dance team in Los Angeles empowering others with disabilities to live boundlessly through dance. That money would go towards our 3 days summer experience in LA where hundreds of disabled people come to take dance classes, attend seminars, and gain community. The search is on for eight dancers to be flown to a live judged event in Phoenix, AZ, showcasing their skills to Ciara and her choreographer, Jamaica Craft. One will be chosen to appear in her upcoming music video and win $20,000!
