My dance style is a combination of street dance roots from both hip-hop and West African street-style culture. It has been carefully crafted and shaped by growing up in the underground street dance battle scene, while staying connected to my traditional Ghanaian roots. It feels as though God placed me in both worlds so I could find myself and express my true identity, offering my artistry to the world.
Growing up, watching Ciara and Missy Elliott's music videos planted the seed that blossomed into my dance journey. Being in Ciara's music video would be a full-circle moment—a testament that, even if you come from the suburbs of the Greater Toronto Area, you can achieve dreams that once seemed out of reach. This opportunity wouldn't just impact my life; it would inspire others, including my dance students, friends, and my entire city.
The $20,000 would be a tremendous blessing. I would use it to give back to the community that shaped me by creating a 12-week program for at-risk youth. This program would provide access to Toronto's top choreographers, dance experts, and mentors, offering these young individuals the chance to dream big and equipping them with the resources to achieve success. It would be an honor and privilege to pay it forward in this way..
