My dance style is a very performative hip-hop! I have been training in multiple different styles since I was 13 and found that I really enjoy trying to fuse other textures of movement into what I do. I would say my biggest inspiration to do this and try new things is my dance teacher and coach. He has trained me to look at movement as a conversation not just steps, so when I'm on stage or camera, I'm having a conversation or telling a story versus just thinking about the eight count!
As a young black female I have always looked up to artists like Ciara, because of the road that she has paved for individuals like myself to feel confident in who I am and what I do! Being in a music video with Ciara would not only validate me for all the hard work I have put into my passion and art form, but also reassure me that as an autistic dancer I am worthy of working in the industry and there is a place for me!
If I received the 20,000 I would open a dance studio! The area that I live in does not provide a worthy education to dancers with disabilities, like myself, who are trying to grow and develop into professional working dancers! I would open a dance studio that specializes in working with disabled dancers who need a safe and judgement free environment to thrive and grow into the professionals they know they can be!
The search is on for eight dancers to be flown to a live judged event in Phoenix, AZ, showcasing their skills to Ciara and her choreographer, Jamaica Craft. One will be chosen to appear in her upcoming music video and win $20,000!
