I’ve studied several styles, but my favorite are Hip Hop and Jazz Funk. I take a lot of inspiration from Buddha Stretch for Hip Hop and Nika Kljun for Jazz Funk. My style is a fusion of hip hop grooves and jazz funk movement, with musicality similar to contemporary (choreographing to the melody/lyrics instead of just the beat). Ive also been feeling so inspired by learning House and Waacking most recently!
I grew up in a small town with no hip hop dance culture, let alone any dance opportunities in general. I was mostly self-taught with Hip Hop. I moved to Pittsburgh when I was 29 and finally found a dance community to grow in. I’m now 31, which isn’t old by any means, but in the dance world it seems like most opportunities are given to younger dancers. I feel as though this would give me chance to finally put everything I’ve learned to the test. I
I would use some of it to pay off my student loans, but a big portion would go back into the dance community here in Pittsburgh. I would donate some to the studio I’ve been training at, as they’ve done a lot for me and my dance journey.
