My style is mainly centered in hiphop and heels, but I also venture out to other styles such as Afro. I started dancing at the age of 12 which is later than others. However, despite that I have tried really hard to become a well-rounded dancer and am still eager to learn. There is very deep history behind the style of hiphop that is deeply connected to my culture as a black woman and I love being able to explore that using the art form that I love the most.
As someone who started dancing later than others, I always felt like I wouldn’t be able to pursue it professionally because of the competition around me. However, with hard work and training I was able to push past that insecurity and become the dancer I am today pursuing a career in dance professionally. As there aren’t many opportunities out her in the city of Chicago, Ciara’s music video would help me kickstart that career and not only gain exposure, but valuable experience.
As someone who is currently still in college and very involved on campus. There are so many expenses that go into not only being a student, but being a student dancer. There’s books, classes, costumes, dues, rent, performance fees and more. Since I go to school in a college town, I often have to travel to the city to get training and opportunities. $20,000 would help me keep working towards my dreams as it would help me continue to pay the fees that go into being student dancer.
The search is on for eight dancers to be flown to a live judged event in Phoenix, AZ, showcasing their skills to Ciara and her choreographer, Jamaica Craft. One will be chosen to appear in her upcoming music video and win $20,000!
