My dance style is everything! I grew up in hip hop class with street breakdancers and poppers. I branched out to ballet, jazz, contemporary, praise dance, and more. My dance inspirations are Ciara, Usher, Missy Elliott, Josephine Baker, and Ingrid Silva. I watched people who looked like me hold leadership and high positions in academies and knew I wanted to be a part of that conversation.
Not only did I grow up knowing that Goodies went platinum in my household, but she was the one I saw the most. She was on Music Choice and the old Youtube! Being in her music video would impact me more mentally. It would prove to myself that the years I’m dancing is worth it. That the times I wanted to give up, and didn’t, was for a purpose. I would love to share my dream with others and someone who made a her for self. My life wouldn’t change but my mindset to dance would.
Giving back. I work a full time job, living paycheck to paycheck but I could finally give back. I will help my mother with a deposit for a house. I could save to pay my student loans. I also would give some back to my dance studio so we can finally open our own space. Lastly, I would invest in myself. I mean, I can’t even imagine having that in my pocket but I know I can’t spend it all on myself when so many people have helped me along the way. I would just be grateful for this.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Entrepreneur of Impact, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
