I am the Dance Icon, because I bring positivity, tradition and a new sense of confidence to everyone's life.
Thank you for supporting me in this competition. Your donations and participation will benefit the Why Not You Foundation in their mission to fight poverty through education initiatives that empower youth to lead with a why not you attitude.
My dance style is tradition African and Afrofusion inspired by Guinea West African artist, jazz musicians, and afrobeat artist such as Fela Kuti. I'm inspired by Africa itself because the continent allows one to feel free. Free to be themselves because of its rich culture; build confidenc. Many musicians and dancers incorporate African in their dance movement as it it trendy. African is not trendy to me; it's who I am. My ancestors paved the way for me to be expressive and I'm grateful for that.
Being in Clara's video would simply be a dream. As someone who is plus-size, inclusion isnt as probable due to stigmas to be thin. However, I feel my size signifies strength & confidence. Ciara is such a beautiful dancer and I believe having a traditional African influence in her video would really set the stage in so many ways. As a school teacher, my students would be inspired by seeing their role model take dance seriously and prove to them that your talent can get you anywhere.
If I was given $20,000, I would open my dance studio, specializing in African Diasporic styles including: Afrobeat, traditional African, Afro-Latin, Haitian styles & Afro-Modern to say the least. I would also provide my students in the undeserved communities free or low cost training classes because the lack of funds shouldn't be the reason why you were not technically trained. Dance is Life!
