Representation matters. Dance mentors have shaped my dance journey, showing the power of visibility and empowerment. Let me entertain you.
Thank you for supporting me in this competition. Your donations and participation will benefit the Why Not You Foundation in their mission to fight poverty through education initiatives that empower youth to lead with a why not you attitude.
My dance style is very commercial hiphop based but I also like to incorporate other styles with a jazz and modern background into my movement. This approach is what I feel makes my movement quality so diverse. My inspiration as a dancer is probably Comfort Fedoke, Mel Charlot and Christina Grady as they have really made me feel seen within the dance community. They pour into me on a monthly basis giving me knowledge to help propel me in the dance industry.
Being able to have the opportunity to dance behind such an icon would give my professional dance career the launch needed. I have always dreamed of being in music videos and worked so hard to get to this point in my career. As a brown girl I feel representation is necessary and I want to be that dancer that little girls like me can look up to and be their inspiration.
Winning the 20,000 dollars could really help me to get into my dream college. Being able to attend The University of Southern California, Gloria Kaufman School of Dance would allow me to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts and pursue my dreams to be a respected and well-known creative director. I want to help future artists create their dream performance world.
